Welcoming 4th of July Travelers

by | June 29, 2015

Independence DayAre you ready for one of the most traveled weekends of the year? With Independence Day falling on a Saturday this year, there’s a good chance you’ll have a full house. Regardless of if your staff is stretched thin from the overwhelming amount of arrivals, your guests expect the best and will be on high alert for ways you go above and beyond to accommodate their trip. This is a perfect time to make a great first impression so guests will come back for their next getaway and write glowing reviews for you online. Here are a few ways that your hotel can shine during this busy weekend.

Host a Hydration Haven

It’s no secret that the 4th is always a hot weekend. Be sure to have a pitcher or dispenser of ice water in the lobby and a stocked stack of cups for guests to quench their thirst on the way in and out during their busy days. If you want to step up your water game, add lemons, melons, or cucumbers to make it extra refreshing. Plus, if you have a pet-friendly hotel, make sure there’s a water dish for Fido that’s always full.

Be a Know-It-All

Provide front desk workers with all the info on any question that you will be asked this week. Where is the best place to see fireworks? Where can we park? Do we need to pay – and is it cash? How early should we arrive? Do the dirtyåÊwork and call up your local Chamber of Commerce to get the official answers, then put them into a one-page document for your front desk to refer to.

Restock that Sunblock (and everything else)

With more guests enjoying summer in full swing, keep an eye on supplies that will make a big difference if they run out. Make sure there are always pool towels available, keep lobby refreshments filled, and have plenty of sunblock and bug spray on hand in your sundries shop. You may also want to purchase travel-sized bottles of sunscreen to hand out to guests who forgot their own – this is an inexpensive yet thoughtful touch that’ll be much appreciated, especially by parents.
