TMG News: Social Media Edition

by | June 3, 2016

TMG NewsWhile we know that social media is constantly changing and evolving with how users share on them, there are a lot of new changes in the major networks which will effect how users and brands share and interact with content. Here’s what you need to know.

Twitter

Despite having 310 million active monthly users, news outlets and tech bloggers love to predict the demise of the platform. Common complaints are that it hasn’t kept up with the changing way users are tweeting and that messages get lost in the mix.

At the end of May, Twitter fought back by announcing some exciting updates coming soon which will make it better to use than ever, including that links and media will no longer take from your character count (previously, they accounted for 23 and 24 characters respectively). Learn more about the character count change as well as updates to retweets, replies and more in our full article, Understanding Upcoming Twitter Updates.

Instagram

Although marketers often tout the importance of getting on Instagram and interacting with user-generated content, many companies are hesitant to join because of the lack of analytics and evidence of effectiveness. This is all about to change, and soon. Find all the information about new Instagram changes and business profiles in the full article, Instagram Updates and Business Tools.

Facebook

Unlike Twitter and Instagram, we don’t have any big news to share on Facebook. However, that’s not to say there aren’t big changes coming in the future. In an interview from Bloomberg appearing on Skift, Expedia CEO Dara Khosrowshahi predicts that Facebook will soon follow Google in the online travel booking business. After all, you can already click a “buy” button on advertising to purchase products, so the leap to reservations isn’t too far off.
