We understand that sometimes, it can be hard to come up with interesting responses to hotel reviews. There are only so many different ways you can say “Thank you for your feedback” and come across as truly genuine. That’s why it helps to have a third party who is prepared with professional responses by your side to help respond to reviews. That said, the Travel Media Group review response team was lucky to receive a creative and inspirational hotel review that they couldn’t wait to respond to. Here’s how we handled it.
One TripAdvisor reviewer decided to lean into their username DanearysTargaryen and leave a very Game of Thrones-inspired review for one of our hotel clients:
After a long trip in the grass sea among the Dothraki, my khal and I needed a place to stay overnight before we continue our long journey. Pacific Inn provided us with aquaint and clean quarters, comfortable beds, quiet environment (save for the occasional planes flying overhead but it’s not that bad), and the hotel was located near the dock and other awesome restaurants. The staff is friendly and they have free parking (good for my dragons) but it’s small so it gets full quick.
Not one to step down from the challenge, one of our expert review responders wrote back:
We are glad we were able to provide a great place for you and your dragons to rest on your way to taking over the Seven Kingdoms. We do our best to treat all of our guests like royalty and we are pleased to know that you enjoyed your stay. We are also happy that you had an opportunity to explore the local area while you were in town. Thank you for your very fun and positive review. Please know that although Winter is coming, when Game of Thrones returns next summer, we offer free HBO to all of our guests, so we hope to see you then!
This review response teaches a valuable lesson about responding to reviewers using a similar tone and language. If a guest leaves a stern and dry review, it’s probably best to stick to the script and respond professionally. However, if a guest writes a happy review in a more playful tone, feel free to meet them there and add to the conversation.
Our favorite part of the response is the smart emphasis on the hotel’s free HBO. This is an amenity that isn’t always mentioned but would be perfect for this kind of guest who surely doesn’t miss an episode of their favorite program.
